The North Queens Community Health Centre is more than a clinic; it’s the heart of health and care in the community of Caledonia and North Queens County. Our mission is rooted in patient centred care, rural wellness, and connection.
What Sets Us Apart
Working at the North Queens Community Health Centre is unique because the property is owned and managed by the North Queens Medical Center Association, a non-profit organization that gives you a direct connection to the community.
Mission

Vision
North Queens Community Health Centre is a model of collaborative practice and teaching facility providing comprehensive and progressive community health services in an atmosphere of trust, respect, open communications, and commitment.
History
The North Queens Medical Center Association incorporated as a registered society in 1985 when it became known that the sole village doctor was retiring; they believed that if a medical centre were provided it would be easier to attract a new doctor to the community.
The former NSLC trailer was purchased from the Province for $1, with extensive renovations undertaken and funded through the Province, Bowater Mersey, and many local fundraising efforts. The original Medical Center had its official opening in October 1989. Although there was no doctor, there was a dentist and chiropodist who held regular hours.
In 1991 the Association welcomed the first salaried doctor in Nova Scotia, Dr. Adele Belliveau. As the staff grew the facility needs changed, and a second trailer was rented.
When needs outgrew the existing facilities a momentous decision was made: construct a new building. To make this dream a reality was challenging, but the community pulled together to make it happen: planning, soliciting corporate support, community fundraising, and actual physical work. The building was constructed without any provincial funding: major contributions were received from Bowater Mersey, the Region of Queens, and the Queens General Hospital Foundation. The Square Foot Club raised nearly $40,000 for the project, and substantial contributions came directly from the community.
The North Queens Community Health Centre was formally opened in January 2002, complete with ribbon cutting; it was a day to remember! The building has continuously been maintained by the Association who are passionate about its mission. The services provided at our facility are a mainstay for sustainability of the community and a corner stone to consistent local health services for the residents.
Our Logo
The green colour of the cross was chosen for its association with a healthy environment, good health habits, and first-aid. The figures surrounding the circle represent the community working together. The other colours are the medicine wheel to honour the Mi’kmaq health traditions in our community. We feel this logo to be a fitting representation of the North Queens Medical Centre.
